I read an article at the beginning of the semester about a sculpture titled "bird in space" and was inspired to make this group of work. The article explained a court case involving this piece in which it was debated whether the piece was art or not because it did not actually look like a bird. I thought this was interesting so I wanted to explore the idea of photographing birds without any actual birds being in my images. I focused on characteristics of birds and how they relate to humans.

Utopia: Digital Project 3

For my utopia's I wanted to create really cheesey "picture perfect" places. For the first I added lense flares to enhance this, and in the second I added sticker-looking flowers throughout to make it look like a realistic version of a Disney-princess-movie cartoon-like environment. I wish I would have added bunnies, I think it would have added to the overly cheesiness of them to take it over the top.

This was my first project in digital photo. The assignment was to create dramatic portraits. My idea was to give the viewer two photos of the person, but there would still be a mystery of who it is.

This was my first black and white project. The object was to play with the idea of minimal and maximal images. The first two are minimal, the second two are maximal.

This project was to create a story using a series of images. I chose to go with an obvious story, girl being chased, but left it open for interpretation by repeating the first image again at the end. I wanted to viewer to make it their own by wondering if it was a dream, if the girl imagined these things when touching the mask, if she defeated the predator, ect.

This was my final project in black and white class. My goal was to explore beauty in the human body that is often over looked. I did this through photographing different parts of the body, some straight forward and some slightly abstract.

So for my final I couldn't decide what to do so I just drove around and shot some stuff and this is what I came up with. I found a lot of old industrial subjects that haven't been used for years and are just rotting away, but they strangely came out to look really interesting, and some actually beautiful.

Color Photo Project 3

The first half of our third project is to make an image to be paired with an existing work of art, I chose to do a repeat. I made my own versions of The Thinker and The Statue of David, but I'm not sure which I'll be choosing yet.

The second part of this project was to create art about life. Photograph an issue to persuade your viewer to think the same way as you. I chose to photograph a toxic waste incinerator near my house. It was built in the middle of a neighborhood and close to an elementary school.
